Sam’s passion for drawing started at a very early age of 3 following the lead of one of his cousins whose drawing talent he admired. At app. 8 years old, drawing took a back seat to baseball which became Sam’s new passion. At age 14 Sam started playing the guitar(new passion) and wound up in a local rock band playing local night clubs 6 nights a week from 9:30 pm till 2:30 am while still going to high school. Sam later became a member of a band that had 4 nationwide hit songs. In his late 20’s Sam received an Associate in Science degree (music business) and lacked just 15 hours from his Bachelor’s degree when a business opportunity came up. Owning two successful businesses for 20+ years, Sam decided to sell one to have more time to do other things.
In 2006 he started painting with oils and the original passion took back over. Sam enjoys both plein air and studio painting. “Landscapes are my favorite subjects because there is so much variety, color, beauty, and depth. The more I paint, the more natural beauty and colors I see in things that I never saw before. My goal is to put the viewer at the location and feel something close to what I felt when I painted it. I want the canvas to become a portal that pulls the viewer into the scene and takes them to a place of emotion so they feel like they are there at that moment or would like to be there. Hopefully they get a feeling of peace, a vuisal connection of sorts, mystery, or anything else they might feel that’s gives them a strong positive feeling. My ultimate goal is for the scene to communicate to the viewer.
